drowned in sound
Vinyl-wise, this proves to be Fantastic Plastic indeed. Ikara Colt rock in a non-obnoxious kind of way, guitars are strummed with a vengeance and the vocals sound like the guy who's here to bring you glam and fire. 'Rudd' is 21st century rock'n'roll with a youthful edge, 'Your Vain Attempts' shows that there's a lot of fun things to do with a distortion pedal. Screech. Howl. The vocals on this one are coming from far off. Like an angry man standing on a hill, raging against the sunset. Alternatively, he might as well be stuck in a phonebox with a somewhat dodgy connection. Overall, this single rocks! (Julia Vergho)

in love with these times
a shout to ikara colt, who not surprisingly shout back. their new outing "rudd" is less fall-like and therefore not as good as the walls-come-tumbling-down mayhem of "sinking venice", but it still sounds like a re-make of the last action painting! 45 and frankly any combination of yelling and uncultivated guitars has some value in "these dark days". the vocals recall the saturday night drunks on northcote road berating the all bar one doorstaff, which can't be bad, and if wimbledon fc ever go back to their infamous days of psyching out opponents by playing 120 decibels of through the dressing room walls, they could do worse than this.

Oddly reassuring that mid-80s Fall still hold such a powerful grip on the imagination of today’s young indie groups, but, also, come on. You’re young. You’ve got your whole career ahead of you. Have an original idea and roll with it. Nobody will laugh. There’s still time to pull back from the Mark E Smith altar...that way lies Prolapse (Ask your parents, during a screaming, eye-clawing row – Ancient Indie Ed). (Ted Kessler)
